Who For:

Professional service personnel, leaving the armed forces who wish to improve their general building trades skills in order to maintain and renovate a domestic property.

Content:

Week One

Introduction to basic carpentry. Construction of room sized stud partition containing door linings for subsequent door hanging.
Plaster-boarding of stud partition.
Introduction to external rendering. Plaster finishing on plasterboard. Plaster patch and repair techniques.

Week Two

Door hanging and fixing of door furniture. Fixing of skirting's and architraves.
Basic electrics: running a power circuit and lighting circuit around the partition, and connecting up to lights, sockets, and a fuse box.
Basic plumbing: pipe-jointing techniques, running a simple pipe run around the partition connecting to radiators and sinks.

Week Three

Introduction to bricklaying: trowel techniques, building small walls, progressing to building a cavity wall with blocks/bricks with a lintel suitable for a window opening.
Brick paving techniques and construction of a brick paved car park bay.
Installation of UPVC windows.

Further individual consolidation on any of the above areas. As group sizes are small individual preferences can be catered for.

Outcome: Certificate of attendance
